Areas of Mentorship

I offer mentorship to all healthcare workers when it comes to building resilience and preventing burnout. I also offer mentorship specifically to occupational therapists who are new graduates, therapists transitioning to private practice, and experienced therapists looking to build skills in my specialty practice areas. These include: anxiety, depression, trauma, chronic pain, and concussion.

Key Components

New Knowledge & Skills

We might use direct teaching as a part of mentorship where you are identifying a lack of knowledge or skills to meet your goals.

Application

We will focus on applying skills and techniques to client scenarios, building from straightforward cases to more complex cases.

Inquiry

We will explore inquiry and self-reflection tools to better identify internal and external barriers which are keeping you feeling “stuck” in practice.

Internal Barriers Analysis

We will explore and address barriers that stem from your thoughts & feelings such as a fear of messing it up, or feeling not good enough to try out that new skill.

External Barriers Analysis

We will tackle barriers that exist in the world around you, such as not having enough time, or not having the right worksheets or practice tools to meet your goals.

Accountability

We will agree on homework to complete before next session. This most often involves picking a specific client to try out something different with.

My story

Despite having a long list of courses under my belt, I still worked in isolation and I could be my own worst enemy when it came to trying to apply new skills, especially when it didn’t pan out like in our course case studies on the first go (Does this ever happen in real life?!). This left me feeling stuck and wishing I could make more of an impact with my clients. Mentorship helped me to overcome my own barriers to growth & development by providing accountability and support in adapting the tools I had learned. I saw my clients outcomes improve as I became a more effective therapist, and I felt energized & excited to go to work again knowing the true power of what I could offer my clients!

Still wondering if I can help?

Check out a detailed list of the various courses, mentorship, and supervision I have received in each of the following areas. Please note that while I have listed trainings like Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) in the “Mental Health” category, I use applications of these therapies every single day with other chronic conditions such as post-concussion syndrome, chronic pain, long COVID, and so on. These are extremely helpful mind-body treatment approaches that have been transformational with my chronic condition clients as they focus on transforming the relationship with distressing symptoms.

For a list of what I have created and/or facilitated in my role as a clinical educator, you can find a detailed listing on the Courses page of my site. I have hosted a number of occupational therapy practicum students which I really enjoy. I have mentored new graduates as well as experienced clinicians who are looking to enter a new areas of practice. And I quite enjoy making learning resources - be it webinars, workshops, online courses, and the list goes on!

If you’re still wondering if we are a good fit - please feel free to set up a free discovery call with me where we can chat further about your learning needs and my approach to mentorship. You can also get to know my teaching style through accessing my free clinical worksheets, reading my blog, or connecting with me on social media.
